Medium 3DAnimated
Spinning torus
Raymarch a donut that spins around the vertical axis.
How this challenge works
You write a fragment shader that draws the picture above, live in your browser. A match bar shows how close you are, and the score combines accuracy, code size (the par is 963 characters in Unity (Built-in)) and GPU speed. Work in HLSL, GLSL, WGSL, Metal or Godot and export the result when you are done.
The numbers you need
- Camera / light / loop
same as the Raymarching lesson, but camera at float3(0.0, 0.0, -3.5)- Spin
a = time * 0.7; p.xz = mul(float2x2(cos(a), -sin(a), sin(a), cos(a)), p.xz)- Tilt
b = 0.6: the same matrix on p.yz- Torus
q = float2(length(p.xz) - 0.8, p.y); return length(q) - 0.3- Color
float3(0.3, 0.8, 0.9) * (0.15 + 0.85 * diffuse)
Helper functions provided
The toolbox has: calcNormal(). Add them above your frag function with one click.
