Hard Effects
12-way kaleidoscope of hexagon, bulging
A picture built in steps: bulge, then kaleidoscope, then draw hexagon, then color it. Every step is listed below with its exact numbers.
How this challenge works
You write a fragment shader that draws the picture above, live in your browser. A match bar shows how close you are, and the score combines accuracy, code size (the par is 467 characters in Unity (Built-in)) and GPU speed. Work in HLSL, GLSL, WGSL, Metal or Godot and export the result when you are done.
The numbers you need
- Space
p = (uv - 0.5) * float2(aspect, 1.0)- Step 1: Bulge
p *= 1.0 + 2.4 * dot(p, p)- Step 2: Kaleidoscope
a = atan2(p.y, p.x); a = abs(fmod(a + 6.2831853, 0.524) - 0.262); p = length(p) * float2(cos(a), sin(a)) (12 mirrored wedges)- Step 3: Pattern
d = max(abs(p.y), abs(p.x) * 0.866 + abs(p.y) * 0.5) - 0.22; m = 1.0 - smoothstep(0.0, 0.006, d)- Step 4: Colors
lerp(float3(0.06, 0.17, 0.12), lerp(float3(0.39, 0.85, 0.66), float3(0.88, 0.5, 0.68), uv.y), m)
